About us . . . Uralla Arts is a well established group and has a solid membership base but more are always welcome no matter where you live. We encourage people who have had little or no experience in the creative arts to get involved and learn new skills. A good way to join is to volunteer as a helper with Uralla Arts projects. For over twenty five years Uralla has been recognised as a creative community but it was only ten years ago that Uralla Arts formed. What Is The Focus? The current focus is on presenting musical performances, though the organisation has several sub committees which concentrate on various aspects of the arts that interest members, including visual arts, performing arts and film. This creates the dynamism and diversity that is Uralla Arts. The incorporated status of the group also allows us the flexibility to umbrella smaller groups who may need the cover of an incorporated body for a specific event. Our musical events are becoming well known in the region for bringing a diverse range of quality national and international performers to Uralla. Initally our audiences were predominantly from Armidale but we are now noticing a strong local and regional growth in our audience. Where possible we would like to support local performers and to this end local all girl band Turkish Delight have been regular performers. Uralla is now well on the map of touring performers and we are getting more requests to host performances than we can manage. Our sculptural focus dates back to the early days and the visit by internationally recognised New Zealand sculptor Chris Booth. In a short three week visit Chris was able to create a sculpture that symbolised the combination of community that we are in Uralla and more broadly in Australia. Several sculptors live and work in the district and Uralla is also home to several metal foundries. This combination of resources has resulted in a project called “The Constellations of the South” which was commenced in 2001. |
